Rooms are rarely square

Walls settle, framing shifts, and floors aren't always level — especially in older New England homes. A tape measure at two points on a wall can miss an out-of-square condition that a full measurement catches, and that difference can mean a filler panel that doesn't fit or a cabinet run that's off by enough to matter.

Appliance and clearance requirements

Refrigerators, ranges, and dishwashers all have manufacturer-specified clearances that aren't always obvious from a room measurement alone. Missing one of these is one of the more common (and expensive) reorder causes we see.
