5 Cabinet Storage Add-Ons Worth the Upgrade
Pull-out trash cabinets, drawer dividers, and lazy susans are inexpensive relative to the daily convenience they add.
Cabinet storage upgrades are inexpensive relative to how often you'll use them — most add well under a few hundred dollars to a kitchen order but get used every single day. Here are the ones our designers recommend most.
1. Pull-out trash and recycling
A dedicated pull-out cabinet keeps bins hidden and off the floor, and it's one of the most requested additions in any new kitchen we design.
2. Drawer dividers and peg systems
Adjustable dividers turn a deep drawer into organized storage for pots, lids, or utensils instead of a pile. NorthPoint Cabinetry's storage add-ons and several of our hardware brands' organization lines cover this well.
3. Lazy susans and corner solutions
Corner cabinets are notoriously hard to use efficiently. A lazy susan or a pull-out corner system reclaims space that would otherwise be nearly impossible to reach.
4. Spice and utensil pull-outs
A narrow pull-out next to the range keeps frequently used items within reach without cluttering the counter.
5. Closet and pantry systems
For kitchens with a pantry or adjacent closet, Richelieu's closet and storage systems extend the same organized approach beyond the cabinet boxes themselves — rods, baskets, and adjustable shelving built for the space rather than generic units.
Our advice
Add these at the time of your original cabinet order rather than after the fact. Retrofitting a pull-out or divider system into an already-installed cabinet is possible but almost always more expensive than specifying it up front.
